Doris Barbee

DURHAM- Mrs. Mary “Doris” Atkins Barbee, 90, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020.
Mrs. Barbee was born on April 21, 1929 to Wade and Josephine Atkins in Raleigh, NC. She was a member of The Gospel Center and later Grove Park Chapel, she sang in the choir, and was part of the Bereavement Committee and Sunshine Committee. She enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, and shopping. Doris was an avid ACC sports fan. She loved talking and spending time with her friends and family. Doris will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, step-mother, great-grandmother and friend.
Mrs. Barbee was preceded in death by her parents, Wade and Josephine Atkins; brothers, James Deleno “JD” Atkins, and Bobby Atkins; sister, Mattie Duke. She is survived by her husband, Foy Barbee; daughter, Lisa Barbee Perry (Woody Vann) of Durham, NC; step-daughter, Connie Ballard (Jan Berger) of California; step-son, Craig Barbee (Lorrie) of Fuquay Varina, NC; brother, John C. Atkins of Durham, NC; sister, Betty Murray of Emerald Isle, NC; grandchildren, Lydia Perry, and Luke Perry; step-grandchildren, Courtney Barbee, Chelsea Sturgill, Chloe Williams, and Dr. Marisa Berger; and step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Grove Park Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Dale Brooks. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Grove Park Chapel.
