Mary Evelyn "Bitsy" Fletcher

Mary Evelyn "Bitsy" Fletcher was born March 23, 1940 in Durham North Carolina. She lived and worked in Durham all her life. She was a Dental Assistant for 18 years and worked at Burroughs Welcome in the Research Triangle Park for 25 years before retiring. She started running her own mobile dog grooming service in 1997.

If you knew Bitsy, you knew she was always the life of the party and always brought laughter wherever she went. To know her was to love her. Mary was a member of Friendly Hill Baptist Church in Hillsborough North Carolina.

She was the 4th of 11 children born to Walter Woodrow Fletcher and Mary Ward Fletcher.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Walter Fletcher; her mother, Mary Fletcher; her brothers, Dan Fletcher, Ray Fletcher, John Fletcher; and her sisters, Barbara Odom and Charlotte McCotter.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her brother, Douglas Fletcher of Timberlake: and her sisters, Brenda Perry (Felton) of Durham, Theresa Fletcher of Stem, Ruby Griffin (Stuart) of Durham and Bonnie Barbee (Bill) of Elm City.

Mary had no children of her own but was loved and had a very special bond with all her nieces and nephews, and all the grand children of the family.

Bitsy had two very special nieces that provided her care, Beverly Mulholland and Sonja Caudle. Then, during very difficult times when they could no longer help, God sent Bitsy an angel to be her very special caregiver, Breanna Jones.  She took care of Bitsy and made her last days on Earth very happy.  Bitsy loved her and she treated Bitsy better than most children treat their mothers. The family is eternally grateful.

Serving as Pallbearers are Greg McCotter, Doug Odom, Felton Perry, Jr., Forrest Steele, Woody Fletcher, Randal Barbee, Jamie Fletcher and Andrew Griffin.  Honorary Pallbearers are Rhonda May, Diane Starling, Sonja Caudle, Monica Horton, Beverly Mulholland, Amber Fletcher, Erika Byrd, Ricky Fletcher, Tom McCotter, Bryan Perry, Bill Barbee, Jr. and Bud Lay.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 8, 2023, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will be Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel.  Interment will follow at Lowe's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Bobby Tate.
