DURHAM- Mary Laura Keen Hill, 74, of Durham died on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Coy Keen and Lucy Baker Keen. She was born in Johnston Co. on October 19, 1937. She was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church, but grew up attending the Salvation Army, and later Angier Avenue Baptist Church. She worked many years at Merrick-Moore Elementary school where she was active with the PTA, serving as President of Merrick Moore’s PTA and later receiving honorary lifetime membership in the North Carolina State PTA for outstanding leadership and contributions to the betterment of children. Fortunately for her grandchildren, she was able to retire and keep her grandchildren. Mary spent many years involved with Bethesda Athletic Association and Southern High School where she made so many lifelong friends. Mary was preceded in death by her grandson, Blake Hill and her sister Betty Holifield.She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Sheriff Worth Hill, Sr. They were married on June 6, 1958, but have been sweethearts since they were 12 years old. She is also survived by her children, Mandy Satterfield (Ray), Worth Hill, Jr., Angie Maynard (Pratt), Brad Hill, special nephew David Colcough (Dawn), brother, Roy Keen (Becky), sister Patsy Hill (Phil), grandchildren Chrystal Clayton, Brandy Hill, Lisa Hill, Pratt Lee Maynard, great-grandchildren, Austin Clayton, Aubrey Clayton and Bailey Hill, and her dear friends, Monty and Penny Davis, Don and Nancy Baker, Rusty and Sandra Crawford, and Ollen and Sylvia Lane, and so many special nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church. Rev. Norman Gordon and Dr. Cooledge McCoy will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Sheriff Mike Andrews, Chief Deputy Don Ladd, Major Paul Martin, Major John Flamion, Captain Stan Harris and Captain Don Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be Men and Women of the Durham County Sheriff’s Office. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family would like to thank Dr. John Kihm and staff, Dr. Robin Hardie-Hood and staff at Regional Cancer Center, and the staff at Durham Regional Hospital, specifically the 5th floor nursing staff. We would also like to thank our Aunt Patsy, who made sure Mama and Daddy had good home cooked meals for many months during her illness. We love you so much Patsy!
