Mary Rose Whitaker

DURHAM Mrs. Mary Rose Whitaker, 82, of Durham, died on Saturday, July 18, 2015.

Mrs. Whitaker was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late John Wesley Rose and Eva Guess Rose. She retired from Marriott Aramark as a cafeteria clerk. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and attended Olive Branch Baptist Church when her health permitted. She enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening, Flea Markets and listing to the Gaither‘s Gospel Music. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ross Hayes, brothers, Dewey, Leroy and Johnny Rose; sister, Louise Rose Woods.

She is survived by her son, Marshall Bryant (Frankie) of Mebane; three daughters, Donna R. Hayes of Oxford, Bonnie Hayes Owens ( Jack) of Clayton, Jayne Hayes Poplin (Mike) of Raleigh; brother, Winfred Rose; 9 grandchildren, Christina Perry, Nikki Devore, Jeff Marbrey, Amber Thomas, Jason Cannady, Whitney Poplin, Caleb Poplin, Tyler Bryant and Austin Bryant; 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at Olive Branch Baptist Church. Rev. Tim Wheeler will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jeff Marbrey, Caleb Poplin, Austin Bryant, Stephen Thomas, Tyler Bryant, Jimmy Rose and Jason Cannady.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jeff Marbrey, Caleb Poplin, Austin Bryant, Stephen Thomas, Tyler Bryant, Jimmy Rose and Jason Cannady.
