DURHAM- Mrs. Mary Magdalene Chappell Sams, 87, of Durham, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019.Mrs. Sams was born August 17, 1931 to Thomas and Louvenia Chappell in Butner, NC. She was a life member of Gorman Baptist Church. Mrs. Sams fur babies were her joy. Magdalene will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt, who will deeply be missed by everyone blessed to have known her.Mrs. Sams is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Louvenia Chappell; husband, Walter M. Sams; brothers, Leroy Chappell, George Chappell, James Chappell; sister, Marie Hester.Mrs. Sams is survived by her daughters Debra Sams, Sonya Sams; sister, Ruby C. Nance; and other loving family members and friends.A visitation will be held Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other time the family will be at the home of Ruby Nance.A funeral service will be held Monday, January 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Craig Phelps and Reverend Jerry Hooper. Pallbearers will be Wayne Nance, Doug Hester, Barry Glenn, Linwood Hester, David Chappell, and Randy Chappell. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.Flowers are acceptable, or memorial contributions can be made to the Gorman Baptist Church Building Fund at 3315 E Geer St, Durham, NC 27704.
