DAYDURHAM Mrs. Mary “Stevie” Stephenson Weaver Day, 83, of Durham, died at the VA Medical Center/CLC Hospice Center on Saturday, July 23, 2011.Mrs. Day was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late Jesse B. and Mucy Flowers Stephenson. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. She retired from People’s Security Insurance Company as an Administrative Assistant. She was a member of the American Legion Post 7 and a Ladies Auxiliary member. She was a member of Plainview Baptist Church. Mrs. Day was preceded in death by her brother, Clifton Stephenson and a sister, Betty Lloyd.She is survived by her husband, John Day; three daughters, Paulette Weaver Purgason and husband, W. R. of Charlotte, Joanne Furmage of Durham and Kim Fereza and husband, Tom of Oxford; one brother, John Stephenson of Garner; two sisters, Sybil Sturchio of Wake Forest and Bobbie Toler of Wise N.C.; grandchildren, Roger and wife Joanna, Amber, Vicky and James; great-grandchildren, Cade, Taylor and Kaylie Purgason, Cody and Jonathan Furmage. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev David Chambers. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.Active pallbearers will be James Furmage, Tom Fereza, John Guill, W. R. Purgason, Sr., Roger Purgason, Jr. and John Sturchio.The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.
