Mathew John Dalton, affectionately known as "Matty" He was a hard working man and dedicated to his family. Everything he did was for them. Matty was born April 19th,1935, in his family home in Lincoln Park on Ryerson Rd. His parents were John and Elizabeth Dalton. He had four siblings Marion, Eileen, Dorothy (Tootsie) and brother Raymond. At a young age had to drop out of school, when his dad took sick to immediately go to work to help support the family and he then was drafted into the Army. When he was done serving his Country, he came back started his own dry wall business and married my mom, Eileen Smith, who he knew since they were young kids. They moved up the hill to 804 RT. 202, Towaco, where he started his family. First came Dorothy, second Michael (Mike), and third Christine (Chrissy).
He was compassionate, loving and caring. As a young man he was a devout Catholic, at Saint Joseph’s R.C. Church, He loved to help people in need. Most of all had a true love for his yard and garden where he grew some of the best tomatoes. He loved spending hours at Borinskis and most of all being with his buddies at the Legion Hall Post 279. That was my dad’s favorite place where he could talk about his passions for shuffleboard, horseshoes, deer hunting, fishing, trapping and who knows what else. After spending many happy years in New Jersey, he and mom then made the decision to spend the rest of there lives is in North Carolina with family.
