SANDSTON, VA- Mr. Melvin Floyd Durham, 78, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019.
Mr. Durham was born on August 11, 1941 to Dessie and Bertha Durham in Guilford County, NC. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during The Cuban Missile Crisis Era and Vietnam. Originally from North Carolina, he lived in Virginia for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, and spending time at Lake Gaston. Melvin loved to travel and enjoyed all sports. He enjoyed visiting his home state of North Carolina. Melvin will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known him.
Mr. Durham is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Juanita Durham Stallings. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Brenda Durham; two children, Dexter Floyd Durham, and Angela Nugent (Steve); stepchildren, Leo Ainsworth, and Leiane Fridley (Vernon); brother, Gerald Durham (Estelle); grandchildren, Krystina Durham, Taylor Nugent, and Haylee Nugent; step-grandchildren, Justin Fridley, Valarie Fridley, Tommy Ainsworth, and Ashlee Ainsworth; five great-grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren; and other loving family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held an hour prior from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Officiating will be Reverend Hugh O’Shields. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
