Merita Shambley

Mrs. Merita Keith Shambley, 86, of Durham, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023. Mrs. Shambley was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late Nulushious Keith and Mary Jane Woods. She graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1955. She later retired from UFCW Local 204 and Duke University Medical Center.

She attended Immanuel Free Will Baptist Church and served as the pianist. Prior, she was a dedicated member and organist at Faith Baptist Church.

In addition to her love of music, she participated in the Bethesda Baptist Church Prime Timers Ministry. She enjoyed playing cards (Skipbo) with family and friends as well as solving jigsaw and word search puzzles.

Mrs. Shambley was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Norman Paul Shambley, Doris Scoggins (sister) and James Keith (brother).

She is survived by; three daughters, Trisha Newton (Billy), Paula Groves and Angela Jones (Justess); twin sister Evelyn Overcash and two grandchildren Danielle and Trey and one great granddaughter Brooklynn.

A memorial service will held January 6^th at 11:00 A.M. with visitation afterwards. Both will be held at Immanuel Free Will Baptist Church, 2013 Ellis Road, Durham, NC 27703, officiated by Pastor Jim Turnbough.
