STEM Mildred Averett Jackson, 81, passed away at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham on Saturday, January 31, 2015, surrounded by her family.
She was the daughter of the late Dewey Y. Averett and Leora Currin Averett and was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, McLendon Jackson and all her siblings. She was a graduate of Mars Hill College and retired from John Umstead Hospital. She was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church, attending since birth until her health started failing and she chose to be moved into Carolina House in Durham. She was a loving and devoted Aunt to all her nieces and nephews. She loved traveling and she and her husband had visited all fifty states.
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; godchildren, Teresa Craig and Tammy Crute; grand- godchildren, Misty Woodward, Charlie Crute, Carly Crute , Courtney Crute, Cayla Crute and great godchild, Raegan Woodward.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2014 at 3p.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Dr. Randy Pittman will officiate. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Shock Overton Road in Oxford. Pallbearers will be Jerry Jackson, Donnie Jackson, Ricky Jackson, Travis Woodward, Charles Averette, Charlie Crute and Brandon Averette.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m., before the service at the church and other times at the home, 3071 W. Lyon Station Rd in Creedmoor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Providence Baptist Church.
