Monroe Burrage, Jr., 97, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025. He was born in Durham, NC on October 30, 1927 to the late Monroe Burrage, Sr. and Cora Neal Burrage.
In addition to his parents Mr. Burrage was preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances Burrage; son, Wayne R. Burrage; brother, Ben Burrage; sister, Margie Knight and great granddaughter, Taylar Burrage.
Mr. Burrage proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a longtime and faithful member of the Gospel Center in Durham. Monroe retired as a Manager for Commercial Equipment Company after many years of skillful and dedicated service.
Monroe was a very intelligent man who was great with his hands, he could fix anything. He enjoyed building dulcimers and taking them to the mountains to sell. Mr. Burrage also built clocks. Monroe also was an avid bird watcher and lovingly raised parakeets for many years.
Mr. Burrage enjoyed NASCAR, taking the boat to the lake and camping in the mountains. Most of all he enjoyed his family and friends.
Monroe is survived by his son, Jerry M. Burrage (Marilyn); grandchildren, Michael Todd Burrage, Kelley Lynn Young (Matt) and Jennifer Capps (Steve); great grandchildren, Hunter Burrage, Morgan Emmons (Gabe); Kiersten Capps, and other loving family members and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate. Interment will be private at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
