Mozelle Kearns Ewing

DURHAM Mozelle K. Ewing, age 90, succumbed to the flu on January 17, 2015. She was born on February 29, 1924 to the late Vance Kearns and Lydia Hursey Kearns.

She graduated from Durham High School in 1943. She worked at White Star Laundry and American Tobacco before marrying Terry N. Ewing, Jr. in November of 1952. In October 1953 she gave birth to her only child, Teresa. Mama never worked after marrying because my Daddy never wanted her too. She was always the best Mama in the whole world.
She was always close to her grandmother “Granny” Kearns. Granny taught her to love the beauty of this world and about the Lord. Her mother also taught her about the Lord. All this Mama passed down to me.

Mama was an avid reader and smart as she could be, always looking into Encyclopedias to read up on things. This I did not inherit from her. I always said if Mama died before me, and they did brain transplants I wanted hers.

Mrs. Ewing is survived by her daughter, Teresa and her husband, Wayne Lovell, sister-in-law, Nancy Kearns, who provided us with many a tasty meal, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters-Louise Smith, Dorothy Boone and Helen Cheek and by her brothers-Jack Austin Kearns, V. M. Kearns and Dennis Kearns.

Pallbearers will be Donald Kearns, Ronald Kearns, Bill Andrews and Calvin McCallum, and Troy Boone.

Visitation will be Tuesday night from 7 to 9pm and funeral service will be held in Hudson Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, at 2pm. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Duke Hospice and the staff of Pettigrew Rehabilitation, both who took great care of Mama and of me. Flowers are acceptable and donations to Duke Hospice would be appreciated.
