DURHAM Mrs. Hilda Pendergraft Hudson, 86, of Durham, died on Wednesday, August 28, 2013.
Mrs. Hudson was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late Willie Bryant “High-Pocket” Pendergraft and Mary Aiken Pendergraft. She was retired Co-Owner, Vice-President and licensed Funeral Director of Hudson Funeral Home for over 50 years. For many years her duties also included secretarial, hairdresser and organist. She was a member of Branson Memorial United Methodist Church and attended Angier Avenue Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in both choirs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Thomas Hudson Sr.; son, Timothy Bryant Hudson and sisters, Janet Glenn and Shirley Hill. She loved chocolate and coffee.
She is survived by her son, O. Thomas (Tommy) Hudson Jr. and wife, Mary of Raleigh; daughter, Trina Hudson Campbell and husband, Steve of Durham and three grandchildren, Brooke Hudson, Chris Hudson and Corey Vickers.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Hugh O’Shields. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Staff of Hudson Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be the Durham Funeral Directors.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and others times at the home of her daughter, 609 Guy Walker Way. Flowers are acceptable or donations can be made to the Durham Rescue Mission, PO Box 11368, Durham NC 27703, in memory of Hilda Hudson. Thanks to Trina’s best friends Shannon Ignatowski, Staci Griffin and grandchildren in her heart, Joseph, Crystal and Callie.
