Myrtie Wade Barbee

March 25, 1930 — March 7, 2025

Raleigh

Myrtie Wade Barbee entered into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. She was born March 25, 1930 to Walter Ray and Pearl Atkins Wade of Goldsboro, North Carolina. She was the fifth of 12 children.

She was born the daughter of a tobacco sharecropper, later moving to Durham, where she worked in the tobacco factory and met her husband, William Barbee. Myrtie and her late husband of 72 years, Reverend William Barbee, ministered together all over the state of North Carolina for the Methodist Church. A dedicated pastor‘s wife, she shared Christ love with everyone she met. Myrtie was known for her beautiful smile (and red lipstick). She was a kind soul who spoke to and loved everyone. If you were fortunate enough to meet her, then you also loved her.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers James, Harry, Hiram, and Milton, and her sisters, Francis, Louise, and Hilda. Mrs. Barbee is survived by her children, Nancy Barbee Wells of Orange City, FL, William Ray Barbee (Bonnie) of Elm City, NC, Timothy Lee Barbee (Paula) of Victoria, Australia, James Millard Barbee of Raleigh, NC; Grandchildren Cindy Wells Marshall (Scot), Rob Wells, Kim Wells, Bill Barbee, jr., Randal Barbee (Katie), Andrew Hutchinson (Alli), Anna-Catherine Barbee, Addison Barbee, Mahana Mathi-Taniori; Great grandchildren, Sierra Wells, Neveah Barbee, Rylee Barbee, Morgan Barbee, Gabriella Barbee, Payton Barbee, Matthew Marshall, Meredith Marshall, Carter Rodriguez, Hunter Rodriguez, Darin Neho and Lahana Neho; Great-great-grandchildren, Matthew Glasscock, Bradley Glasscock, David Glasscock, and Braden Hutchinson; sisters Jane Wade, and Peggy Whitfield; brothers, Carlton Wade, Donald Wade and wife Josie.

A memorial service will be held Sunday March 16, 2025 at 4 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Mr. Leo Bennett.

Fulfilling her wish to contribute to the advancement of medical science, Myrtie generously donated her body for research. Her selfless decision reflects her lifelong spirit of kindness and dedication to helping others.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to United Methodist Church of Graham, where she was member.
