RALEIGH- Mrs. Nancy Anne Carrington Markham, 84, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.
Mrs. Markham was born on February 5, 1937 to Ben and Ruby Carrington in West Durham, NC. She was a member of Cedar Fork Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she also served as Deaconess, directed the Youth Choir, and taught Sunday School. Nancy worked in the front office at Bethesda Elementary School for 38 years, serving as secretary, bookkeeper, mentor, and friend to all. She was an avid Duke fan and season ticket holder to the Women’s Basketball games. Nancy enjoyed singing in her Gospel quartet, coloring, and working on crossword puzzles. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.
Mrs. Markham was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Vance Markham; sister, Charlotte Grooms; and granddaughter, Kirsten Bookman.
Mrs. Markham is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Markham Bookman (Paul), Mary Beth Putnam (Larry), and Billie Anne Markham (Lauren); brother-in-law, Wayne Grooms; sister, Charlene Harris (John); grandchildren, Katie, Emily, and Abbey Putnam, Riley and Grayson Markham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Maplewood Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Ron Zedick.
