Nellie Gray Nell Parker

DURHAM Mrs. Nellie Gray “Nell” Parker, 86, went to meet her Lord on May 13, 2012. She was in her home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Parker lived in Durham for forty years before moving to her daughter’s home in Columbia, Missouri She retired after 22 years from the Salvation Army as a Social Worker and Secretary. She was a lifelong Salvationist, Sunday School teacher, local officer and band member. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Parker, Jr. in 2001.She is survived by her two sons, William H. Parker, III and wife, Marie of West Jefferson, NC and Robert M. Parker and wife, Kathy of Birmingham, Ala.; three daughters, Joyce P. Tyrer and husband, Harry of Columbia, Missouri, Jeanne P. Norris of Clearwater, Fla. and Deborah Stanley and husband, Kevin of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Salvation Army Church, officiated by Major Charles Powell. A private interment will be in the Oakwood City Cemetery.
