ROUGEMONT Mrs. Nellie Grey Humphries Bowen, 89, of Rougemont, died on Thursday, June 29, 2017.
Mrs. Bowen was born in Granville County, the daughter of the late Glover Humphries and Annie Mae Weary Humphries. She worked as a nurse at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. She was hardworking and a great caregiver and watched over her patients with compassion. Mrs. Bowen was a member of Red Mountain Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Bowen; brothers, William “Boss” Humphries; Cecil Thomas “CT” Humphries and JD Humphries.
She is survived by her son Rufus Wayne Bowen and wife Ronda of Rougemont; four daughters, Juanita Bowen of Cary, Kathy Chambers and husband, Stanley of South Carolina; Judy Dorsey and husband Joe of Rougemont and Joann Stone and husband, Mark of Rougemont; brother, Russell Humphries and wife, Eleanor of Oxford; sisters, Dorothy Burton and husband, John of Henderson and Nettie Humphries of Oxford; grandchildren, Steven Wayne Mangum, Nicholas Wayne Bowen, Darien Chambers, Brandon Chambers, Amy Blackwell, Mandy Dorsey, Justin Stone and Morgan Stone; great-grandchildren, Taylor Bowen, Melissa Bowen, Cameron Bowen, Sabrina Mangum, Courtney Mangum, Bryson David and Lacey Morrisson and Aiden Davis.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Red Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Dave Pryor and longtime friend, Ronnie Huff will officiate.
