SMITHDURHAM Mrs. Nora “Catherine” Smith, 87, of 3117 Cheek Road, died at Durham Regional Hospital on Monday, December 12, 2011.Catherine was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late William H. Bridges Jr. and Effie Hackney Bridges. She was a faithful steward of Plainview Baptist Church and a member of the Gray Woods Sunday School Class. She was the pianist and organist at the church for 30 years. Catherine was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burnice Adams Smith and a brother, William Bridges Jr.She is survived by two sons, Mike Smith and wife, Nell of Timberlake and Brian Smith and wife, Becky of Franklinton; one daughter, Bonita Wilkins and husband, Charles of Timberlake; sister-in-law, Ellen Bridges; sister, Nell Smith of Durham; 7 grandchildren, Jeff Smith, Niki Prignano, Jack Pickens, Brandy Smith, Jennifer Smith and Sheri Pickens and 9 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Plainview Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Doug Nalley. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Active Pallbearers will be Jack Pickens, Jeff Smith, Chris Smith, Darcus Adams, Sean Smith, Tony Prignano, David Pennell and Todd Laakso. Honorary pallbearers will be Lewis Newcomb, Charlie Ferguson, Larry Smith and Ronnie Smith.The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other time at the home.
