Norman Decator Johnson Sr.

Mr. Norman Decator Johnson, Sr., 72, passed away on April 10, 2022.

Norman was born July 5, 1949 in Durham, NC, a son of the late Willie “Shorty” and Retha Irene Moses Johnson. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved to fish. Norman was a very kind man, as he was extremely forgiving. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his daughter, April Jessica Johnson; and brothers, Arvin Johnson and David Johnson.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his son, Norman Decator Johnson, Jr.; daughter, Cheryl Perez-Delgado and husband Rafael; grandchildren, Emanuel Hernandez, Damian Hernandez, Christian Hernandez, Robert Portillo, Miguel Portillo, Jose Portillo, Lucia Eisenhart, Elena Dunnagan, and Randall Dunnagan; and great-grandchildren, Maribel Hernandez, Anneli Hernandez, Christian Portillo, Camron Portillo, and Miguel Portillo, Jr.

A visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Old Fashioned Tabernacle (1124 Wrenn Rd, Durham, NC 27703) with a memorial service following at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Hugh O’Shields.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests living plants to plant and grow at the Johnson residence or grow your own plant at home in remembrance of Norman.
