DURHAM Mr. Onie “Buck” Gooch, Jr., 76, of 930 S. Mineral Springs Road, died on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.
Mr. Gooch was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late Onie Arthur Gooch and Annie Lois Keith. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Raynor Gooch. He was a former employee of Biggs & Watson Towing. He was a charter member of Bethesda Volunteer Fire Department and attended Central Baptist Church in Mebane.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra M. Gooch; two sons, Danny Gooch and wife, Daphine of Timberlake and Ken Gooch and wife, Karen of Apex; daughter, Lynn Shaffer and husband, Mel of Benson; stepson, Tony Whitfield and wife, Missy of Person Co.; step-daughter, Connie W. Riggsbee of Person Co.; brother, Tom Gooch of Durham; sisters, Dovie Gaddy, Annie Sealey and Edna Parrish all of Durham; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Mike Faust and Chaplain Phil Wiggins will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Dwight Wright, Alvis Riggsbee, Jerry Horton, Steve Gooch, J. W. Harris and Mel Shaffer.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 930 S. Mineral Springs Road. Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at
