Paul A Newton

Paul Avery Newton (95) of Durham, NC went home to be with the Lord on January 9, 2025. Paul was born in Granville County on October 5, 1929, to the late Virgie Tuck Newton and Roger Avery Newton. He was proceeded in death by thirteen siblings, Macie, Mattie, Minnie, Warren “Harden”, Esther, Lena, Louise “Snookie”, Carl “Doc”, Jeremiah “Jake”, Crawford, Ruby, Mildred “Sissy”, and Floyd.

Paul was a beloved family man. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Imogene Sharon Newton; Children, Tony Newton, Debbie (Norman) Davis, and Jeffrey Phillips; Grandchildren, Bradley (Ashley) Walker, Jereme (Ashley) Walker, Britney (Jesse) Daniels, Jeffrey Phillips Jr. , and Justin Phillips; Eleven great grandchildren, Addison, Ava, Emma, Braelyn, Amelia, Zoe, James, Leah, Michael, Jesse Jr., and Johnny Paul. 

Mr. Newton loved his family dearly and cared for his parents, in-laws and siblings in their later years. He was devoted to his faith in Jesus Christ and has been a member of Bible Baptist Church since 1966. He was a furniture craftsman specializing in restoration and refinishing. ..

Paul retired from Y & J Furniture in 1995. He spent his retired years working on furniture in his home shop and tending to his home and yard. He liked listening to Bluegrass and gospel music. He loved caring for his great grandchildren. 

Mr. Newton was a very sweet, giving, kind-hearted and funny man. If he ever told you that you were ugly that was a compliment because that means he thought you were pretty. He was always joking around and making people laugh. If you knew him, you loved him. He will be missed by many. 

A Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Hudson Funeral Home, 211 S. Miami Blvd, Durham, NC. 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral will be Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church, 2047 Gate 2 Road, Creedmoor, NC. Burial will be immediately following at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 102 Moss Road, Creedmoor, NC. Officiating will be Rev. Jimmy Hall. Pallbearers are Jereme Walker, Bradley Walker, Tom Walker, Jesse Daniels, Gary Elliott and Warren Newton. Honorary Pallbearers are Paul Taylor and Larry McGarr
