Pearlese Porter Cherry

CHERRY Mrs. Pearlese Porter Cherry, 82, of Durham, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. She lived in Newport News, Virginia for 18 years.

Mrs. Cherry was born in Harnett County to the late Malcolm Albert Porter and Letha Sills Porter. She worked 20 years for Libby’s II as a cook and waitress. She was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Lonnie Cherry, Sr. and Herman Cherry and four  brothers, Lester Ray Porter, Vester Porter, David Porter, Roger Porter and a sister, Agnes Dossett.

She is survived by her son, William Lonnie Cherry of the home; three stepsons,  Joe Cherry and Larry Cherry both of New Jersey, Edward Cherry of Durham; one brother, Shelton Porter of Newport News; grandson, Andy Lee Cherry; great-grandchildren, Joshua Cherry and Rebecca Harder and three great-great grandchildren, Ayden Cherry, Nathan Cherry and Emma Harder.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Curt Poe, Jason Altman, Jesse Harrison, Dan Nulf and Mark Ray.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Flowers are acceptable.
