Peter Bruce Friesell

LELAND Peter Bruce Friesell, 65, of Leland NC, (formerly of McMurray Pa), passed away on December 24, 2016 at the Duke University Medical Center after mounting a courageous multi-year fight against cancer. Peter will be best remembered by his many dear friends for his love of golf which was both his vocation, working for part of his career as a sales representative for the Ben Hogan Company, and his passion. He attended all four major PGA events; The Masters, The US Open, The PGA of America and The US Open Championship and played on many of the country’s greatest courses. He played with some of the game’s greats including Ben Hogan and Arnold Palmer. Like Arnie, he had a profound respect for the game, a commitment to generously share his time and expertise with others, and “swagger.” His last job was as a part time course ambassador at The Compass Pointe golf course.
Peter was a graduate of The Kiski School, where he was recently inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame for his Soccer Skills and Athleticism. He then Graduated from Bethany College. He retired in 2015 after a long career as a sales representative with the Edwin Bell Container Corporation.
He was proceeded by the death of his parents; Barbara F. and Semon S. Friesell of Pittsburgh, PA. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Mary Lewis; a brother, Lee Friesell; a twin sister; Susan Smyser; and many other loving family members.
A memorial service will be held on the 19th hole at the Compass Pointe Golf Club, 2431 The Point Club Drive, Leland NC 28451 (www.compasspointegolfclub.com) at 1 PM on Saturday January 7th 2017. (golf attire, please) The service will be followed by a reception at the adjacent Latitudes restaurant.
