Philip Silber

October 2, 1955 — January 22, 2017

Philip Silber, age 61 years, of Union Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, died on Sunday, January 22, 2017 (24 Tevet 5777) at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Ridgewood, NJ, October 2, 1955, son of Gloria Marcus Silber of Greensboro, NC and the late Gene Silber, Philip had been a resident of the Hunterdon Developmental Center for over forty-one years.

A longtime resident of Cottage 13, Philip loved to sing and enjoyed all types of music. His blue pajamas were one of his favorite outfits and he liked to watch movies. During his youth, he was very active and even though as he aged and his health declined, he was still very social and loved holding hands with all the “pretty girls” that came to visit those who lived in the cottage.

Philip’s family would like to extend a special thanks to all those at the Hunterdon Developmental Center for the genuine love with which they took care of of Philip and the entire Silber family. When the family moved to North Carolina, they were unable to find a facility whose staff they felt would treat Philip as if they were his own family like the HDC staff did, hence why they chose to not move him down south. Instead, they chose to keep him with his extended family and they never minded the many trips to New Jersey each year to see him, as they always felt that this is where he was truly at home.

Surviving, in addition to his cherished mother, are three devoted sisters and their spouses, Linda and David Birnbaum of Chapel Hill, NC, Susan Silber and June Peters of Tacoma Park, MD and Debra Silber and Jeffrey Medoff of Greensboro, NC; his loving nieces and nephews, Bernie and wife, Rachael, Holly and husband, Jason, Lisa, Danielle, Avi, Kara and husband, Doug, Ari and wife, Diana, Sar and wife, Liz, Mica, Carmi and Gena; his adored great nieces and great nephews, Ariel, Matan, Diana, Riley, Audrey, Bridget, Shai, Juliet and Asher; and his caring Hunterdon Developmental Center Family.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday January 25,2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Judea Reform Congregation Cemetery, 2560 Jones Ferry Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 Officiating will be Rabbi Eli Havivi and Rabbi Larry Bach.
