Rachel Marie Wood  (Durham, N.C.)

Mrs. Wood passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 5, 2023. She was born on June 3, 1931 in Durham, North Carolina to Elbert H. Nichols and Pearl O’Neal. She was happily married to her husband, Bill Wood, for 52 years of marriage.

Rachel Wood was a loving mother to her sons, Michael Wood and Rick Herndon.  She was an active bowler in the community and enjoyed spending time with her family. Mrs. Wood loved gardening and growing her rose bushes in her pastime.

Rachel is survived by her husband Bill Wood; sons, Michael Wood, Ricky Herndon (Kay); grandchildren, Alan Herndon and Shannon Herndon (Emilio).

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham, North Carolina. Friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and pay their respects.

Flowers are acceptable.
