HILLSBOROUGH Sgt. Randall Lee Penny, 62, of Hillsborough, died on Monday, April 24, 2017.Sgt. Penny was born in Durham. He was a 23 year veteran of the Durham Police Department and retired from Sears after 35 years. He was member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Durham Sailboat and Power Squadron. He was a member of the West Durham Pentecostal Holiness Church. He loved to hunt and fish; enjoyed exercising and workouts. He loved his family; his church and the police. He was predeceased by his father, Julius M. Penny and a brother, Jimmy Penny.He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen Elgin Penny; his mother, Peggy Penny of Durham; four sons, Randall L. Penny, Jr. and wife, Bethany of Durham, Joey Penny of Durham, Tim Penny and Jeremy Penny both of Hillsborough; one daughter, LoraMae Pons and husband, Chris of Chesapeake, Va.; two brothers, Danny Penny and wife, Sharron of Gastonia and David Penny and wife, Lynn of Durham; one sister, Judy Dickens and husband, Scott of Timberlake and two granddaughters, Alexis Penny and Melanie Penny. He was loved by his extended family. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at West Durham Pentecostal Holiness Church. Rev Greg Long and Dr. Danny Penny will officiate. Burial will be on Saturday at 12 noon at the Buffalo Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery in Stuart, Virginia, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Terry and Dr. Danny Penny.The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
