DURHAM Mr. L. Ray Hamilton, 64, of 2629 Bonnie Brae Road, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ray was born in Wake County to the late Edward Louis Hamilton and Velma Lee Hamilton. He served as a Ranger in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After 40 years of working in Commercial Construction, he retired from Duke University Transportation Systems. He was a member of the Professional Construction Estimators Association (PCEA), The Bethesda Volunteer Fire Department as a Captain and was a longtime member of the Bethesda Athletic Association. He was an avid camper, golfer and fisherman and loved to ride his Harley.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Carpenter Hamilton; son, David Hamilton and wife, Sherry of Creedmoor and their children, Wesley Howard, Noah Howard and Landen Hamilton; one daughter, Angela Price and husband, Issac and their daughter, Madison of Hahira, Ga.; four brothers, Roger Hamilton (Patricia), Michael Hamilton, Bobby Hamilton and Richard Carpenter; two sisters, Laura Hamilton (Phillip) and Elaine Greenwood (Dan).
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Jack Moody and Mr. Glenn Hessee. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Vernon Allen, Glenn Hessee, Phillip Brewer, Steve Newbern, Ricky Hall and Angela Price. Honorary pallbearers will be Linwood Allen and Jim Jones.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2629 Bonnie Brae Road.
