Redfield Mattox

DURHAM- Mr. Redfield High Mattox, 93, of Durham died on Saturday, December 29, 2012. He was the son of the late Elmer D. Mattox and Lillie High Mattox. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 21 years of service, served in World War II receiving the Navy Cross and served in Korea. He also retired from the Durham County Public Schools as a teacher. Mr. Mattox was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty one years, Louise Council Mattox, and his brother Thomas “Harold” Mattox.He is survived by two sons Ronald D. Mattox (Patricia) of Seneca, SC, and John Thomas Mattox (Linda) of Tampa, Florida; four grandchildren Ronald A. Mattox (Sandra), Katherine Mattox, Shawn Mattox and Natalie Mattox; three great-grandchildren Ansley, Claire and Lucas; and numerous very special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Lowes Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Bob Brinson and Rev. Forest Gale will officiate. Burial will be in Martha’s Chapel Christian Church Cemetery in Chatham Co. Pallbearers will be Donald, Billy, Jimmy and Robert Council, Frankie and Marshall Shipp and Eddie High.The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home, and other times at the home.
