Dr. Marcus R. Tilley

Marcus Randall Tilley (Marc), passed away in a car accident on Friday, August 10, 2018. He was born on November 14, 1960 in Durham, NC. He was the senior pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Creedmoor, NC and had just celebrated his eighteenth year with the church in June; he had served as a pastor for over thirty years. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1983 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering but felt the call to preach during his sophomore year. After graduation he began his theological studies at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity. Later he went on to receive a Doctor of Ministry degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.
He is survived by Candis Kimrey Tilley, his wife of thirty-four years; a daughter, Katie Tilley Johnson; and his son-in-law, Tyler Johnson. He also survived by his father, Dolphus Tilley; his mother, Nancy Thomas Tilley; a brother, Rev. Dan Tilley and his wife Kim Fowler Tilley. He also has two nephews: Gabriel Tilley and his wife Mackenzie, and Harry Tilley.
Marc’s primary passion in life was proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ so that all would come to know Him as Lord and Savior. Marc was an avid hiker, outdoorsman, and dog lover. He enjoyed beach music and dancing. He and his wife loved to camp at the beach, lake, and mountains.
The family will receive friends at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 15 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a memorial service following at 7:00 p.m. Additional information can be found at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com where online condolences can also be made.
In lieu of flowers, Marc would have preferred donations to the Southern Baptist Cooperative Program to be used for missions. Any checks made payable to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and noted as a donation will forwarded to the Cooperative Program.
