Rev. Ronald R. Christ

DURHAM Rev. Ronald R. Christ, 80, of Durham passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018.Ron was born in 1938 in Shoemakersville, Pa. to the late Ray L. Christ and Marie Balthaser Christ. He graduated from Bob Jones University in 1960 where he served on staff for five years before entering into full time Christian service.Ron’s ministry began in Greenville, NC where he served as an associate pastor for three years. He also served in the same capacity in Newport News, Va. for six years. The majority of his ministry was at Liberty Baptist Church in Durham where for a total of 35 years he was Associate Pastor and Minister of Music. He was also Youth Pastor for eight years, led the Forever Young ministry and taught the Immanuel Bible class. Many of his former youth are serving the Lord in full time ministry.Ron had a love for people. He was known to be a witness for the Lord and a faithful prayer warrior. For twenty-five years, he took yearly mission trips to India where thousands of people accepted Christ. He also traveled to the Philippines and Poland with the Gospel.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary Green Christ; granddaughter, Taylor Christ; sister, Janet Christ Kline and brother, David Christ.He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Thelma Kennedy Christ; son, Brent (Lisa); daughter, Rebecca, and Thelma’s children, Forrest, Karen, Mandy, Brian and eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church. Rev. Frank Owens will officiate. Burial will be in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Derrick Christ, Brian Kennedy, Forrest Kennedy, Brian Kline, Brandon Roberts, Bryson Roberts, Jeff Whitt, and Tyler Whitt.The family will receive friends on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the church.
