DURHAM Mr. Richard Paul Hester, Sr., 84 of Durham, died on Saturday, January 31, 2015.
Mr. Hester was born in Orange County to the late Winfred Paul Hester and Josephine Watkins Hester. He retired from Textilease and was the “Assistant Manager” of the Grove Cafe. He was a member of Angier Avenue Baptist Church and a member of the former Cabin Class. Richard loved to sing and enjoyed playing dart ball. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Hester and a granddaughter, Brooke Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Joey Hester; son Rick Hester and wife, Linda of Durham; daughter, Beverly Lingerfeldt and husband, Ted of Cary; step-daughter, Janet Herndon and husband, Tracy of Durham; stepson, Wayne Tatum (Pam) of Fuquay-Varina; two brothers, Donald Hester of Durham and Gary Hester of Raleigh; grandchildren, Ashley Hester, Chase Hester, Callie McKenzie (Scott) and two great-grandchildren, Maycee Thompson and Emory McKenzie.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Angier Avenue Baptist Church. Rev. Jack Moody will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of Rick Hester, 605 Flagstone Way in Durham.
