DURHAM- Mrs. Rita Karleskint Godwin, 98, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Carver Living Center.
Mrs. Godwin was born February 14, 1922 to the late Fredrick and Caroline Karleskint in Ft. Scott, Kansas. She has been a member of First Pentecostal Church of Durham since 1974. Mrs. Godwin loved roses, reading, and going to church. She enjoyed going out to eat and especially eating steak. Mrs. Godwin loved her Lord and Savior. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted grandmother, sister and aunt.
Mrs. Godwin is preceded in death by her husband, Marlon Adams Godwin; daughter, Carolyn Doherty; parents, Fredrick and Caroline Karleskint; brothers, Bill and Leo James Karleskint; sisters, Esther DeLange, Helen Young, JoAnn Greenfield, Carol Scott Karleskint, Ruth Umlauf.
Mrs. Godwin is survived by her grandchildren, Kristi Albarakat, Robyn Ready, Jeffery Doherty and Kenny Doherty; brother, Tom Karleskint of Ft. Scott, Kansas; sisters, Rosalie Martin of Ft. Scott, Kansas, Pat Hobbs of Wichita, Kansas, Marjorie Cook of Olathe, Kansas, Alice Murray of Connecticut and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Larry Taylor, Stephen Edwards, Tim Pridgen, Gene Ball, Tony Riley and Steve Woods.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at First Pentecostal Church of Durham. Officiating will be Bishop Johnny Godair and Reverend Nathaniel Urshan. A visitation will be held an hour prior from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at First Pentecostal Church of Durham. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Flowers are acceptable.
Hudson Funeral Home will be observing social distancing for visitation as well as the funeral service, and asks everyone in attendance to wear a mask when entering the building.
