Robert Lee George

DURHAM Mr. Robert Lee George, Sr., 93, of Durham, died on Thursday, January 21, 2016.Mr. George was born in Wake County, son of the late Buck and Mollie Dunn George. He retired after 46 years from Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and formerly attended Sorrell’s Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and growing fruit trees. He was preceded in death by his wife, Valeria Glenn George and three sisters, Stella Watkins, Ruby Watkins and Dorothy Bigford.He is survived by his three sons, Robert L. George, Jr., and wife, Linda of Chapel Hill, Ronald Buck George of Durham and Wayne “Chip” George and wife, Betty of Durham; one daughter, Debbie G. Goodwin and husband, Jerry of Durham; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Michael Bond will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at his home.
