Robert Louis Trotter

DURHAM Robert Louis Trotter, AIA, 85, of Durham, died at home on Monday, December 5, 2016.
Bob was born on May 30, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio, and was part of the Burnham Avenue Gang. The son of Joseph Trotter and Gladys L. Petteys Trotter, he was preceded in death by both parents, his wife of 56 years, Marilyn June Trotter, and brothers, Joseph and William Trotter.
Bob graduated from the University of Cincinnati, and was the University Architect at the University of Toledo, Campus Planner at Duke University, and Campus Architect at UNC-Greensboro. He also owned and operated Robert L. Trotter, Architecture and Planning. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army as a Lieutenant, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Toledo, Ohio. He loved and restored his 1974 VW bug.
Bob loved to read, watch movies, and walk his dog in his Durham neighborhood. He was a dedicated dad who never missed a baseball game, track meet, band concert, or theatre performance. His family has fond memories of vacations (“Are we there yet? Are we there yet?”) at Devil’s Lake, Houghton Lake, Mackinac Island, Put-in-Bay, Lake Huron, Ocean Isle, and Holden Beach.
Bob also enjoyed raising his family amongst good friends, the “Pink Flamingo Crowd” on Crary Drive in Toledo, bridge games, and bonfires.
He is survived by his son, Steven Trotter of Durham, NC; daughter Julie Trotter and partner, Janis Matson of Pittsboro, NC, daughter Jennifer Kiev and husband, Josh of Nashville, TN., and daughter Laura Trotter and partner, Toni Roberts of Costa Mesa, CA.; three grandchildren, Steven Trotter, Jr., Maxim Trotter, Maya Kiev, and his dog, Heidi.
The family will receive friends and family at Hudson Funeral Home on Saturday at 11AM prior to the service at 12 noon. Rev. Rick Edens will officiate.
