RALEIGH – Roberta Bordner Luther, age 70, of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Rockingham, NC, died March 20 , 2016, at Transitions LifeCare, Raleigh. Roberta was born in Richmond, Va. on June 6, 1945, the daughter of the late Robert Bordner and Audrey Seay Bordner. In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by her sisters, Jackie Bordner Imel of Woodford, VA and Betty Bordner Bourne of Richmond, Va; and a brother, Roy J. Bordner of Sandston, VA. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include her three children, Rhonda Fields of Lebanon, VA; Joseph Fields (Caitlin) of Lizard Lick, NC, and Jeffrey Luther of Raleigh, NC; 7 grandchildren, whom she loved very much; brothers and sister in law; and numerous nephews and one niece.
For the past 2 years, Roberta battled lung cancer and never complained about her situation through the surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and sickness that she endured. She carried on and no one was the wiser. Roberta loved music, spending time with her family and spending time with her church family, the Ward Boulevard Church of Christ in Wilson, NC. Roberta had worked for IBM at offices in Richmond, VA and Raleigh NC. She worked for the state of NC for 39 years; retiring from the state 2 days before she entered hospice care. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Roberta’s name to Transitions Hospice, a non-profit organization at 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or transitionslifecare.org.
