Roberta Spiers Casper Pierce of Raleigh died peacefully February 28, 2023, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sanford, NC. A true daughter of Raleigh, Roberta grew up in the “Caraleigh” section of South Raleigh, the only girl born to the late Samuel Tilton and Myrtle Wilson Casper. She was predeceased by her four brothers: Luther, James, Alton, and Samuel Casper.
Graduating with high honors from Hugh Morson High School, Roberta was a hard worker and as a young woman designed the window displays for the Mother and Daughter Department Store in downtown Raleigh in the 1940s. Her career in business later led her to work at Bosse Jewelers and Knollwood Manor Nursing Home where she earned her Nursing Home Administrator’s Certificate.
Roberta was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh her entire adult life and was active in the Women of the Church for many years. She and her late husband of sixty-nine years, Swain, resided in the Hi-Mount neighborhood of North Raleigh for fifty-seven years. She was a member of the American Bible Society for over fifty years and believed in spreading God’s Word.
Surviving Roberta are her beloved son, Mark and his wife Kathy of Fuquay-Varina; her adored grandsons, Stephen and his wife Megan of Charles Town, WV, and Josiah and his wife Amber of Thousand Oaks, California, as well as three great-grandchildren: Janie, Raymond, and Gracie.
