Rose Lucille Brown Jones

Mrs. Rose Lucille Brown Jones, 92, of Spruce Pine, NC passed away September 3, 2021 at Madison Health & Rehabilitation after a brief illness.

Born January 11, 1929 in Tampa, Florida to the late Benjamin Wade Brown and Bertha Lillian Williams Brown. She was the youngest of 9 children. She grew up in Durham, and attended Durham High School in the class of 1947. She worked at Durham Hosiery Mills for awhile before marrying the love of her life, Edward Jones, and raising two beautiful children, Cynthia Lynn Jones and Douglas Earl Jones. In later years, Rose was employed by the City of Durham up until her retirement in 1997.

Rose and Ed were avid travelers, and were lucky enough to have traveled all over the world and all over the United States. In later years, she and her friend Tommy Pridgen would continue to travel all over the United States attending Naval reunions. Rose was a member of the Durham Shrinettes, and enjoyed her time with those ladies supporting the Shriners in Durham.

Rose loved a thrift store, and could be spotted most days at local thrift stores in Durham and later on in and around Spruce Pine NC. She loved going out for ice cream and especially fried pies.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Edward Earl Jones, daughter Cynthia Lynn Jones of Lexington, SC, son Douglas Earl Jones of Prospect Hill, NC, and granddaughter Jessica Marie Jones of Durham, as well as all her brothers and sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are grandson Kevin Scott Warren and partner John Simmons of Spruce Pine, NC; grandson, Christoper Paul Jones of Durham; daughter-in-law Teresa Inscoe Jones of Durham; son-in-law Jack Warren of Leasburg, NC, and numerous extended family and friends all over.

The family would like to take this time to give a special thank you to Yancey Funeral Services of Burnsville, NC for the wonderful care they gave Rose, Madison Health & Rehabilitation in Mars Hill, NC for their loving care these past few weeks, Compassionate Care of Western North Carolina for the wonderful and loving care given to Rose these past 5 months, Mrs. Cathy Beaver of Burnsville, and Mrs. Staci Shepherd Bruce for showing Rose true mountain hospitality, and to all the many friends in western NC who made Rose feel so welcome these past few years.

A simple graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens in Raleigh. She will be laid to rest by her husband. Officiating will be the Reverend Hugh O’Shields.
