Rowland F. Williams, Jr.

DURHAM Mr. Rowland F. Williams, Jr., 79, of Durham, died on Thursday, January 21, 2016.
Mr. Williams was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late Rowland F. Williams and Gertrude Matthews Williams. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and retired as District Manager after over 25 years with Home Credit. Mr. Williams was a member of Berea Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and was a member of the Dovie Shepherd Sunday School Class. He was a member of the American Legion Post 416 and past member of the Exchange Club of Greater Durham. He loved his grandchildren’s ballgames and activities, enjoyed traveling, golf and was an avid Duke fan.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Swainey Williams; son, Robbie Oakley and wife, Ramona of Durham; three daughters, Karen Combs and husband, Lane of Durham, Lori Meyer and husband, Tom of Kernersville and Victoria Smith and husband, Joe of High Point; sister, Linda Fogleman of Durham; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church. Rev. Mike Jessee and Rev. Phil Mumford will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandchildren; Matthew Meyer, Leeann Meyer, Elizabeth Oakley, Daniel Oakley, Randi Meyer and Steven Oakley. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the American Legion Post 416.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to3 p.m. in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
