DURHAM Mrs. Ruby Fletcher Edwards, 96, of Durham County, died on Saturday, August 29, 2015, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Edwards was born on April 19, 1919 in Durham County, and was the daughter of the late David Wiley Fletcher and Lena Creech Fletcher. She retired from the Durham County School System as an Administrative Assistant at Lowe’s Grove Middle School. She was a member of Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Edwards was very creative, enjoyed writing letters and rhymes and also enjoyed reading. She was predeceased by her husband, Sidney L. Edwards.
She is survived by her son, Phillip Edwards and wife, Sharon of Durham; daughter, Linda Pugh and husband, Jim of Charlotte; brother, Gene Fletcher and wife, Mary Frances of Durham; five grandchildren, David Edwards, Tami Payne, Melissa Pelletier, Nancy Pugh and Christy Pugh; and five great-grandchildren, Austin Dean, Avery Payne, Dickie Payne, Skyler Pelletier and Scarlett Pelletier. She was also survived by Guadeloupe Torres, who was like a son, and his family and her devoted caregiver and companion, Debbie Blackburn.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Suzanne Cobb officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to Fletcher’s Chapel UMC, 1919 Fletcher’s Chapel Rd, Durham NC 27703. Online condolences may be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
