DURHAM- Mrs. Ruby Frances Nance, 79, passed away Saturday April 11, 2020.
Mrs. Nance was born on February 11, 1941 to Thomas and Louvenia Chappell at Watts Hospital in Durham, NC. Ruby retired from Murdoch Developmental Center after 45 years of service. She was a member at Smith Chapel Baptist Church for over 40 years where she sang in the choir. Ruby was a hardworking wife, mother, and friend. She enjoyed working in the yard and growing flowers. She was always willing to help others and made time for her family and friends whenever they needed her. In her later years, Ruby enjoyed traveling and taking bus tours. She will be remembered as a loving, caring, and devoted Christian wife and mother who will be deeply missed by all blessed to have known her.
Mrs. Nance was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Louvenia Chappell; husband, Jackson “Jack” Nance; brothers, George, Roy, and Buster Chappell; sisters, Mary Maggie Sams, and Marie Hester. She is survived by her son, Wayne Nance; brother-in-law, Tom Hester; sister-in-law, Glennie Chappell; nephews, Doug and Linwood Hester, David and Randy Chappell; and nieces, Debra and Sonya Sams.
There will be a private graveside service at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Reverend Jerry Hooper. Hudson Funeral Home will offer the public an opportunity to stop by and view or sign a register book from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Smith Chapel Baptist Church at 2705 Mansfield Ave, Durham, NC 27703, or to your local A.S.P.C.A in Ruby’s name.
