Russell "Gary" Crabtree, Jr.

Russell “Gary” Crabtree, Jr., son of Russell Crabtree, Sr. and the late Paula Hall Crabtree, passed away on Tuesday February 11, 2025 at the age of 54.

A lifelong Durham resident, he was a graduate of Southern High School, and upon graduating, started a career in retail management. Mr. Crabtree later had the pleasure of working alongside his brother and father in their Durham based, and family-owned companies: J Crabtree Electric & Triangle Drive Shaft Service, respectively. Gary loved spending time with family, whether it was grilling out, taking the boat to the lake, or most of all, watching sports with his two boys, Chase & Justin. Anyone who knew Gary knows he was a die-hard UNC fan.

Gary is survived by his wife, Kristie Baker Crabtree; sons, Chase & Justin Crabtree, and David Kyle McFalls; father, Russell Crabtree, Sr., and wife Helen, all of Durham; brothers, Jeremy Crabtree and wife, Christon, of Youngsville, NC, and Albert Hughes, Jr. of Oxford, NC; one grandchild due to arrive in September 2025; and his 18 year old companion, dog, BooBoo. 

A visitation for Gary will be held Monday February 24, 2025, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel, officiating will be Elder LaRay Smith and Elder Jesse Hutchins. Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Lassiter, Chase Crabtree, Albert Hughes, Jr., Justin Crabtree, Jaydon Crabtree and David Kyle McFalls. Interment will be held at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 3712 Cheek Rd., Durham, NC 27704.
