Ruth Worrell Smith

April 25, 1929 — August 11, 2021

Mrs. Ruth Worrell Smith, Age 92, passed away, August 11, 2021 surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 25, 1929 to the late Quince and Christine Worrell.  Ruth was the devoted wife of the late Frank Smith; the loving mother of Barry (Ginny) Smith, Bill (Linda) Smith, Kathy (Doug) Koman; the proud grandmother of Christi (Kirk), Brian (Rachel), Scott (Shelley), Josh (Sandy), Matt (Jenn), Carrie (Jimmy), and Jonathan (Kelly). Cherished great-grandmother of Lily, Deacon, Dawson, Dare, Ryder, Kennedy, Wyatt, Wrehn, Cameron, Hayden, Daisy, Elliot, Franklin, Lucy, Theodore, and Adrienne; the loving sister to Gibby Worrell (deceased) and Carolene Sykes, aunt to Tommy (Sandy) Worrell.

Ruth proudly worked at IBM before retiring as an executive secretary.  Her favorite hobbies included cooking, flower arranging and attending Bible studies.

Ruth lived at Abbotswood of Raleigh for many years and was known to be their #1 volunteer.  Most recently, she was a resident of Zebulon House, where she was lovingly cared for. Ruth’s kindness and compassion for those less fortunate was inspiring. Her warm heart and lively spirit will be greatly missed by her entire family.

Per Ruth’s request, a private graveside service for the family is planned at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Pastor Dale Brooks. Pallbearers will be grandsons. The family asks that any donations in her memory be made to Zebulon House in Zebulon, North Carolina.
