RALEIGH- Sachiko “Katie” Aplin (nee Yasaka)

Sachiko “Katie” Aplin, 91, of Raleigh passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020 in Raleigh, NC. Sachiko is survived by her daughter Marie Wright (Greg); son-in-law Tom Houlihan; granddaughters, Lauren Wright (David Schermbeck) and Lindsey Goeres (Richard); grandson, Nathan Wright; great-grandson, Bennett Goeres; sisters, Ameiko Takii (Yuki) and Kiyoko Aroke; brother, Mituru Yasaka (Namea); and numerous other loving nieces, nephews and family members. Sachiko is preceded in death by her father, Uwakachi Yasaka; mother, Chiyoko Yasaka (nee Matsudome); and stepfather, Kamaitchi (Kakuta) Yasaka; her husband, Robert Aplin; son, Michael Aplin; daughter, Sandi Houlihan; grandson, Robbie Sawyer; granddaughters, Cassandra and Kristen Houlihan; sister, Momoko Yasaka; and brother, Ewao Yasaka (Yoshiko).

A private interment and memorial services at family cemeteries in Norwich, NY and Hofu, Yamaguchiken, Japan will be planned at a later date. Regret no visitation or memorial services are being held in North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s/Dementia charity of your choice. The family’s preferred donation will be to continue Sachiko and family’s outreach with drop-offs of bagels, donuts, and small gift cards to the staff of Elmcroft of Northridge in Raleigh, NC for their courageous support of their residents. Any in-kind charitable works would be a welcomed tribute.
