DURHAM Mr. Samuel Dare Crabtree, 90, of Durham, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014.
Mr. Crabtree was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late Albert Crabtree and Pearl Coley Crabtree. He served in the U. S. Army and was a self-employed Carpenter. He was the oldest living member of Gorman Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny, Barnette, Bud, Leon, and Bill Crabtree; sister, Pearl Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Wall Crabtree; son, Al Crabtree and wife, Barbara of Durham; daughter, Dare Broughton and husband, Steve of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Robin Reese (Aaron) , Lori Crabtree, Vince Broughton (Pam), Krystal Broughton; 3 great-grandchildren, Tyler Broughton, Alyssa Broughton, Samantha Broughton and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Gorman Baptist Church. Dr. C. J. Bordeaux and Rev. Julian Motley will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Vince Broughton, Scott Crabtree, Wayne Crabtree, Danny Harrison, Tony Harrison, Jack Leich, Gary Wall and Rob Walpole; Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at his home. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.
