Sandi Stammler transitioned January 9, 2025. A former teacher specializing in instructing students with disabilities, Sandi’s warm demeanor made relationship building effortless with children and adults alike. She made lasting connections in the school systems where she worked: California, Virginia, and at a DODDS school at a Royal Air Force Base in England. Sandi was one of those educators that had peers coming to her door to chat over lunch breaks, and students clamoring for the privilege of having lunch with Mrs. Stammler.
Sandi’s natural people skills served her in her time supporting her husband’s career as an officer in the US Air Force. Often, she could be found organizing events for the wives in Rich’s squadron. Sandi was the kind of partner and leader that could be relied on during award ceremonies and formal events, but perhaps more notable, during the trying times too. She did not shy away from the difficult tasks that came with that role, including rushing to the side of a woman who lost a child, staying with her until her husband could be ushered back from deployment.
Singing the praises of her impactful work with students and military families is necessary for the extraordinary way she did both, but it doesn’t touch the heart of what Sandi meant to her family, and for which she will always be remembered. Sandi was the most selfless wife and mother a family could hope to have as their matriarch. Known for her homemade Thanksgiving stuffing, strawberry rhubarb pie, and lasagna, her prowess in the kitchen was appreciated by all. She was a tireless advocate for her children and grandchildren, in all the forms that showed itself. She was the magic behind all holidays and birthdays, the giver of advice (solicited or not - like all great mothers), and the one always there with a hug or compassionate ear. Generous in every way, Sandi would do without - time, possessions, her own preferences - you name it, if that meant someone else’s burden was lighter. One of her favorite sayings was, “You can’t pour from an empty pitcher,” something she knew well because of her innate inclination to serve others. She may no longer be with us physically, but the example she showed her children and grandchildren lives on through them. Every time they do something to positively impact the world, whether large or small, is the legacy Sandi continues to leave in this world.
Sandi is survived by her husband, Richard Stammler, their three children, Teagi, Tyson, and Tess, and their nine grandchildren, Kylie, Macey, Sydney, Roman, Adrienne, Gavin, Tyler, Hunter, and Abi. Sandi also leaves behind her three siblings, Janet Herhold, Dick Putnam, and Cheri Fitting.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers or other donations, please call your local public school and inquire about paying off a portion of outstanding lunch balances for children in need. It is through even the smallest gifts we can continue to impact students and the world, an act that perfectly captures Sandi's essence.
