DURHAM-Sheila Jones Champion, age 73, passed away on Friday evening, November 18, 2011, after several years of declining health. She was born on October 25, 1938 to the late Leonard and Nellie Parker Jones. Mrs. Champion retired in 2004 after 44 years of service as a cutter at Royal Home Fashions (Durham Drapery). She was blessed with being a 52-year breast cancer survivor.She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Champion Harkless (Ralph) of Durham; granddaughter, Sonya Majors Weitenbeck (Jason) and twin great-granddaughters, Kyleigh Paige and Reagan Elizabeth, all of New York.Also surviving Mrs. Champion are sisters, Edna Jones Carden (Homer) of Durham and Nancy Jones Francis of Cary; brothers, Leonard (Mickey) Michael Jones (Lois) of Houston, TX, Hugh Allen Jones (Doris), Jackie Lee Jones (Carol) of Durham, and numerous nieces and nephews.A memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. James Wallace will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service.The family would like to express their appreciation to Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care, along with many friends who assisted with her care.
