Shirley Bryant Morris

November 16, 1927 — August 19, 2012

Shirley Bryant Morris was the oldest of three children born to Zula Goss Jones and Raymond Fuller Jones. Born on November 16, 1927, she was raised in Durham Co. and attended Durham Public Schools. She was president of her senior class of Oak Grove School graduating in 1946. The following year, she married Frank D. Bryant and raised a family of three girls. In 1948, she and her husband Frank, began attending services at the Gospel Center where she received Christ as Lord and Savior. From that time, she was very active in Sunday School teaching in elementary as well as teenage girls class. She also enjoyed the opportunities of being a summer Christian camp counselor and life guard. Family was her priority second to God. She was very involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Any difficulties that came within her family or extended family, she was always there for those in need showing sincere hospitality. She gave sacrificially of her time to many who were in need.In the later years of her life, she became active in the ladies prayer chain ministry at the Gospel Center. Shortly after the home going of her husband Frank, she was offered an opportunity to become involved in personal evangelism and became a team leader in Evangelism Explosion. She was active in a concentrated area of northeast central Durham where teams conducted street evangelism and door to door canvassing. Through her phone calls, cards and poetry, she was able to use the gift of encouragement to others.She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Zula and Raymond Jones, her first husband Frank Bryant, second husband, Richard (Dick) Morris, brother, Fuller Jones and sister, Gladys Poe. She is survived by three daughters, Terre Hester (Eric), Robbe Riley (Don), Stacy Lee (Eddie) all of Durham. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Jeremy Bryant (Faith), Justin Riley (Alishia), Jennifer Messer (Mark), Katelyn Hester, Jacob Lee (Samantha) and Dylan Lee, and five great grandchildren; Riley Bryant, Erin Bryant, Camden Bryant, Launa Riley and Bryant Lee.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Pittsboro Christian Village at 1805 East Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312.“Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and called her blessed.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Pastor Rod Sharp will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Bryant, Justin Riley, Jacob Lee, Dylan Lee, Mark Messer and Lee Hayes.The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.Proverbs31: 25 – 28 Death is the final awakening.
