Shirley Marie Markham

DURHAM- Shirley Marie Markham, 80, of Morehead City, North Carolina died on Thursday, May 14, 2015. She was a native of Durham, the daughter of the late William Preston Marcom and Louise Ward Marcom. Shirley received her Teaching degree and Master’s degree from ECU. She taught school for many years and then became a Guidance Counselor at Havelock High School. After her retirement she moved to Morehead City.  She was preceded in death by her very special cat, Pistol Pete Mavavich McQueen Markham.

She is survived by her aunt, Ernestine Ward Tew (Gordon) of Atlantic Beach; a special cousin Bonnie Fletcher Barbee (Bill) of Elm City; her loving caretakers, Darrell Fisher (Dorea, Dorean, Darrell Jr.) and Peggie Godette of Havelock; Darrell was the closest of a son she had ever known, and a host of other cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate.
