Stafford Davis Jeans, 90 of Durham, died on Friday, March 11, 2016.O What a wonder that Jesus found me, Out in the darkness, no light could I see,O what a wonder, He put His great arm under, And wonder of wonders, He saved even me.Some people are born great…other people achieve greatness by hard work and determination. Such was the life of Stafford Davis Jeans who was born to Nathan and Minnie Bunn Jeans on September 16, 1925 in Nash County. His childhood was short when at 7 years old; he lost his father to illness. The last words his father said to him were, “Be a good boy”, and he was. He worked and provided as best he could for his mother and two sisters Lecie Jeans Daves and Barbara Jeans Barnes. In 1949, he married Barbara Bobbitt whom he cherished and cared for until her death in November 2014 and missed her every day. She was sure that if the moon fell from the sky that he could hang it back. In return he believed that there was no wife in the world any better than his. Stafford and Barbara moved to Durham to set up a home and find work in 1949. His plan was to find a job that could afford to pay him every payday on time. He was employed by Liggett and Meyers where he worked as a department manager until he retired in 1989. There was never a day that went by, that he did not carry his New Testament in his shirt pocket, taking every opportunity that God sent his way to witness to others. Although he worked a full time job, he still found time to help his neighbors and was very involved in the building of Northgate Chapel. In the early morning hours on March 11, 2016, while the world slept, God stroked his head and whispered, “Come Home, well done”. He is survived by his loving children Brenda Jeans Mann (Randall), William David Jeans, and Thomas Wayne Jeans (Tamara); Grandchildren- Jeffrey Adams Mann (Lynnette), Anne-Marie Mann Hawthorne, Alexander Ryan Jeans, Cody Wayne Jeans; Great Grandchildren- Zachary Blake Hawthorne, Meredith Nicole Mann, Ashtyn Marie Hawthorne, and Jason Tyler Mann. In addition to his wife, his sisters Barbara Jeans Barnes and Lecie Jeans Daves preceded him in death.Stafford was always appreciative of his caregivers at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living and of his physician Ben Pearce.
