Stan Jay Paskoff passed away on January 29, 2024 in his home in Durham, North Carolina surrounded by his loving family. Stan was born on October 22, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York to parents Ann and David Paskoff and grew up with brother Paul.
They moved down south to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1974 where Stan joined the Wolfpack, graduating from NC State in 1979. Stan went to fill out an application to be a volunteer stagehand at Raleigh Little Theater in 1980, but filled out the wrong form and got called in to audition for a part. He continued to participate in every show there until 1988.
Stan gave a tour to an interested volunteer named Penny Greene in 1983 ahead of a production of South Pacific. She knew right away that was the man she was going to marry. Her premonition came true on one enchanted evening, June 16, 1985 when Stan married the love of his life, Penny Paskoff.
Stan started work at Duke University in 1980 and has worked there ever since (43 years and 2 gold watches). He loved working at the Sanford School of Public Policy in IT and was a dedicated Blue Devil.
His son, Sam, was born in 1988 and daughter Laura in 1992. He was the best dad they could ever ask for, spending time coaching them in various sports, taking them on exciting adventures, reading stories in funny voices, and constantly making them laugh. Stan was the king of the kitchen. He loved cooking for friends and family, and was known for hosting wonderful dinner parties. He was an enthusiastic volunteer, spending hours with Meals on Wheels, cleaning up and donating items left behind at KVille, and organizing office events. Stan was active in his synagogue community, becoming president in 2010 and served on the board for many years. His grandson was born in September 2023, bringing Stan great joy.
Stan is survived by his wife, Penny, son Sam, daughter Laura (Jeremy), grandson Dazen, brother Paul (Debbie), sisters-in-law Susan Bochman (Bob) and Mary (Tommy) and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to Meals on Wheels in his name.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Judea Reform Congregation synagogue. Interment will be at Judea Reform Congregation Cemetery following the service.
